The wines of Pascual Toso

Sunday, April 24th, we’ll host our customary Last Sunday wine tasting. The six wines this month are all from a gentle giant of a fellow named Pascual Toso. He’s reserved fellow, quiet and distinguished, and most importantly, he’s a fellow who offers really high-quality wines for a remarkably fair price. In fact, I think I’ll leave the pricing off this sheet and let you tell us what you think the wines are worth before we reveal their pricing, although that may be a clue in and of itself. The time? Our customary 3:30 tasting. The cost? Our customary $25. The food? Our customary six wine-paired snacks. If you’d like to join us, please call 326-9363 and we’ll hold a spot for you.

NV Pascual Toso Brut Sparkling

Bright green and yellow in color, this sparkling wine balances yeast with the essential characteristics of Chardonnay. On the palate, it is soft, fresh and easy to drink. With time, the Pascual Toso Sparkling Brut evolves and gain complexity in its bottle.

2008 Pascual Toso Sauvignon Blanc

This Sauvignon Blanc has good acidity balanced by a degree of softness. With delightful fruit flavors linger on the palate, this wine is rich with pink grapefruit and melon. Full-bodied, it has a sweet finish.

2010 Pascual Toso Chardonnay

Lots of ripe green apples, pineapple, and mango fruit, this Chardonnay is fresh and racy with judicious acidity.

2009 Pascual Toso Estate Syrah

Intensely red in color with highlights of blackberry, this Syrah has spices and red fruit that arise persistently on the nose. The little oak accentuates the rich berry character and the taste of coffee.

2008 Pascual Toso Malbec

On the nose, this Malbec is clean and fruitful. Its aromas are reminiscent of plums and quince with a little touch of elegant oak. The mouth has a mild bouquet of blackberry and licorice fruit that keeps a firm grip through the finish. Thick and burly, Pascual Toso Malbec 2008 has a rich and long finish with smoky accents of vanilla and lingering oak.

2008 Pascual Toso Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

With lovely boysenberry and raspberry fruit harmoniously mixing with plenty of vanilla, spice and chocolate shavings, this Cabernet Sauvignon has a lengthy, focused finish. 90 points from your friend Robert Parker.
