Meet the Cru

Hello, Feastlings.

Something shameful happens each fall.  Tens of thousands of people taste Beaujolais Nouveau for the first time upon its annual release the third Thursday of November.  While that’s not a tragedy in and of itself, the shame is that tens of thousands of people walk away from it thinking that they now know what Beaujolais tastes like- i.e., pretty much just grape juice- and more importantly, thinking that they don’t like Beaujolais.  The travesty here is that Gamay that’s been plucked from the vine scarcely two months before bears no resemblance whatsoever to Cru Beaujolais, Gamay that hails from one of the ten Crus in the region.  This Saturday we’ll taste four of those Crus, and with any luck, all walk away with a more accurate impression of what Gamay can be when it isn’t a hastily fermented, bottled and shipped version of itself that’s more about marketing than it it about winemaking.  Our tasting takes place on Zoom this Saturday, December 5,  at 2:00 pm, and costs, like most of our Saturday tastings, $12.50 plus tax and tip.  Want to join us?  Call and reserve your samples at 326-9363 and put on your tasting shoes.

You can find the tasting order and the pricing for the wines here.

THE MEETING NUMBER FOR THE TASTING, WHICH BEGINS AT 2:00 PM ON SATURDAY THE 5th, IS 823 9601 3045.  THE PASSCODE is 694673.
