Antipodes

Dear Feastlings,

It may be just warming up in Tucson, but our Antipodean friends in Australia are headed into winter now.  So while their harvest is over and they’re preparing for their vines to go dormant, we thought it was time for a nod to our friends down under.  It’s been a decade or two since Americans fawned over more than a couple of Aussie wines- like clothing and haircuts, wines, too, fall in and out of fashion, and we feel it’s time to resurrect some excitement about wines from Australia.

Sure, there were years where the vast majority of what we tasted seemed to taste like, well, the vast majority of what we tasted.  While there have always been wineries who dared to step outside of the Barossa box, we were all too used to regarding Barossa wines as big, overblown things that made you feel like you needed to brush your teeth between sips, but this week, we’ll be tasting Aussie treats with not just fruit but balance, elegance and finesse.

The tasting begins on Saturday, May 6, at 2:00 pm, and for $15 plus tax and tip, you’ll get to taste four wines, learn a little something, and earn a discount on your favorites.  Call us at (520) 326-9363 and we’ll pour some tasted for you.
