Dear Feastlings,
What can we say? Our little wine world is decidedly northern hemisphere-centric. It is, of course, where winemaking began, and whatever is grown below the equator, grape-wise, is almost invariably something with a European progenitor. Still, the various and sundry wine regions within the South Pacific, South Africa and South America each have a distinct character that merits getting to know, and we know we’ve been focused on Western Europe of late. In the interest of diversity, this week we bring you four wines from four different southerly regions. Our friend Emilie joins us this Saturday, September 9, at 2:00 pm with wine from South Africa, Argentina, Chile and Australia, whereupon we’ll shoot the breeze about the various regions and varietals before us.
