Portes ouvertes

Dear Feastlings,

There’s an idiomatic expression in French- “enforcer une porte ouverte”- which means, more or less, to break down an open door.  That is to say, to do something superfluous and unnecessary.  There’s no need to kick in a door that’s already open.  So this week, as we prepare for Bastille Day, fast approaching on July 14th (yes, we’ll be open on a Sunday,) we thought we’d start beating the drum a bit for French wines.

The idea is this: we should expose you to French wines in the hope that you’ll come to love them, but I’m inclined to believe that it’s tantamount to knocking down an open door- to taste French wines is to love them already, and these four will charm you immediately.  Equally charming will be the attempt to pronounce the names of the producers by our friend Mike, who is the first to admit that he is something of an abbatoir of the French tongue.  Nevertheless, he knows his wine, and he’s full of charm, and he invariably arrives with maps and other important information in hand.  Want to come and taste?  Give us a jingle at (520) 326-9363 and we’ll save you a seat.

It starts at 2:00 pm on Saturday the 13th, the day before Bastille Day, and costs $18 plus tax and tip.  We hope you can make it, and please know that the door will already be open.
