Franco Serra

Hello, Feastlings.

Those of you who’ve been attending our monthly wine tastings for a while know that we have a Trust Your Importer Series.  While we were considering Scoperta Imports, we realized that the wines of one of their wineries, Franco Serra, were such remarkable across-the-board values that it would be foolish not to dedicate an entire tasting to them.  So behold, the excellent wine values of Franco Serra.  The tasting is this Sunday, October 28th, at 3:30.  As usual, the cost is $25, which includes not only the wines listed below, but a snack paired with each one.   Call 326-9363 to hold your spot, as the tasting is sure to fill up with wines like these on the agenda (Barolo for $34?  How could you not like that deal?)

2011 Franco Serra Gavi, Piemonte                                                                                         $12.00

100% Cortese.  Light, crisp and clear with wonderful sweet and floral aromas reminiscent of almond trees in blossom. Dry and pleasant with some weight on the palate and a slightly bittersweet sensation on the finish.

2010 Franco Serra Dolcetto d’Alba, Piemonte                                                                         $12.00

Ruby red color tending towards purple. The nose is pleasing and distinctive, light floral, red fruit aromas with hints of smoke. Soft with cranberry and raspberry fruit in the mouth with a touch of tobacco. Light to medium bodied with moderate acidity.

2010 Franco Serra Barbera d’Alba, Piemonte                                                                          $12.00

Ruby red color. Sweet spice, chocolate and red fruit aromas with hints of tobacco. Raspberry, strawberry flavors, medium bodied, light tannins and well balanced acidity.

2010 Franco Serra Langhe Nebbiolo, Piemonte                                                                                   $17.00

Characteristic brick red color with herbal tea and floral aromas with hints of black olive tapenade and beeswax. In the mouth, savory olive and thyme quickly succumbs to the classic mouth-filling assertive Nebbiolo tannins, tempered by sweet lingering flavors of blueberries.

2008 Franco Serra Barbaresco, Barbaresco                                                                             $24.00

A dry elegant, full-bodied red wine, rich in tannin. The nose is dried flowers, violets and anise. In the mouth it is spicy

with a long, tannic, yet smooth finish.

2008 Franco Serra Barolo, Barolo                                                                                           $34.00

Black pepper nose with dried fruit aromas.  Medium bodied with a lively mouth feel. Cherry, raisin and plum flavors. This wine has a long finish with a bit of spice on the end.
