Dear Feastlings,
Well, it looked so promising a few weeks ago that we went ahead with it. Sure that we’d be open again on Sundays, we made our plans for the first in-house Last Sunday wine tasting since February 2020, and we planned accordingly: what better way to celebrate the end of the snap-top vial wine tastings than sparkling wine? We haven’t been able to include a sparkler in our Last Sunday tastings for thirty-three months, so we picked four bottles of bubbly, and to make it extra special, we picked four vintage bottles- nothing non-vintage here. Then the trapdoor we should be used to by now opened up under our feet. With four members of the kitchen staff out for varying lengths of time, we may or may not manage. We know we don’t have enough staff for the entire day, but we’re aiming for dinner service on the 27th, with an eventual return to lunch service as well. And we may or may not even be able to manage that, the way things are going. But, come Hell or high water, we’re having the Last Sunday tasting here at Feast, we’re pouring vintage sparklers, and doggone it, we’re going to enjoy it.
So this Sunday, November 27th, at 3:30 pm, we’ll pour four sparkling wines in succession, each from a vastly different place in a vastly different style, and if it doesn’t help you find something appropriate to pop on New Year’s Eve (yes, the New Year’s Eve menu is coming soon,) it will at the very least remind us all that sparkling wine is indeed food wine, appropriate for dinner every bit as much as it’s appropriate for a toast. It’s not just for celebrating; it’s exceptionally good food wine.
If you’d like to join us and our friend Jennifer Brown, give us a call and reserve a seat and a stem, and enjoy some bubbly with an array of food pairings from humble to elegant. It’s $35 plus tax and tip, and we’ll both raise a glass to an end, albeit a bumpy one, to tuning in on Zoom and finishing the afternoon with a sinkful of dishes. The number to call is (520) 326-9363.
It’s time for some bubbles.
I’m forever blowing bubbles.
