Dear Feastlings,
Some of you talk politics when you come in here and some don’t, and I’m certain both that I agree with a great many of you, and that there’s likely a number of you with whom I respectfully disagree. In making food for people for close to 43 years now, I’ve come to understand that folks are different from one another, and that’s predominantly okay, as long as they agree to disagree, and display a willingness to treat one another with politeness and respect. Whether or not we agree on politics, though, I’ve had people of vastly different opinions tell me this, however, over the past few months: “I’m going to be drinking more, regardless who gets sworn in, and I’m going to be drinking better wine, thank you very much.”
I concur. I’ll be doing my share of both eating and drinking my feelings, and, food and drink being primary pleasures in my limited scope of daily existence, I’ll be eating and drinking better, in hopes of amplifying cheer.
In facilitating the exposition of better wines to you, and to myself, this month has graciously and fortuitously handed us the Last Saturday tasting in a nick of time. Our friend Brandi is making the trek down from Phoenix this week to open the door to Bordeaux varietals from not only Bordeaux, but from various other spots around the world, and with the chill in the air, a big, hearty red should fit the bill quite nicely.
I’ll be putting it to the test myself this weekend, not in a bingey way, but in a way that finds that spot in a Venn diagram where self-soothing and self-care overlap. I welcome and encourage you to do the same, regardless whether you and I agree.
See you soon.
Doug
