Dear Feastlings,
Another, smaller wave of call-ins coupled with another, smaller wave of overcommitments has put us behind the proverbial 8-ball again. Three of the staff called out last weekend, leaving yours truly to test his rusty skills on the line. On the plus side, nothing I made was sent back, so I feel like I still have some credibility as a working chef, but on the minus side, any hungover twenty-five year old grill cook could probably have run circles around me, so if you waited too long for your good Saturday night, you have my sincere apologies, and I, like some, or one, of the high-level officials in other spheres, take full responsibility, for what that’s worth to you.
Tuesday I kicked off the morning at Arizona Public Media, then came to Feast to be ghosted by two interviewees and to try to get next month’s menu written. Today I had to call in the understudy to go hand out miniature Exploradoras at the Girl Scouts’ Cookies and Cocktails fundraising event, so I guess I’ve really called in myself as well, but if you’re in the mood for last-minute cookies and cocktails and want to join us in supporting the Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona, you can head over to the Corbett and visit my buddies Amy and Bree.
Granted, that begins and ends before many of you will even read this, but every little bit helps.
We’ve got a private group’s wine dinner tomorrow, and an end of the month tasting to which you’re all invited this Saturday- and the end of the month means fancier wines and a food pairing with each one.
Then, with any luck, I’ll have finished the April menu in time for us to get in all the ingredients we require, write a series of quick recipes, and prepare some treats for you all. You’ll hear about it on Tuesday, if I’m lucky, or slightly thereafter if I’m as up to my eyeballs as I am this week.
Either way, there’ll be food and drink we’ve put together for you, both here and elsewhere, and we’ll be grateful you decided to take a bite and a sip. See you soon.
Doug and your other friends at Feast
